AMD Branch out into Memory

It seems a recession brings all the companies out into the diversification market, AMD are just following suit in some very big footsteps, so, if you haven't gathered from the title, AMD is branching out into the memory market!

They have teamed up with Patriot to bring AMD Branded memory to the market, this is a very interesting move by AMD, as it has been done before by a company, i distinctly remember Nvidia branded memory, and ATi branded memory from years back, but AMD memory should be something different.

AMD have gone for a three tier product, where there is the entry level, the mid range, and the top spec, lets have a look what they've come up with shall we?

I'm definitely stupid. But can anyone explain me the point of AMD memory? Isn't it complete waste of money of an already drowning company? There are tons of good brands for reasonable price. And I doubt that a single chip has been made but other vendors, and not AMD itself.

Well the point is there are people out there not as well researched as ourselves who go all AMD and Radeon branding. This memory will really appeal to them. Memory rebranding isn't all that uncommon.

AMD isn't a drowning company, they're doing very well outside the enthusiast market. They're APU's are doing especially well, the 7000 series looks like it should be a success too.

I honestly don't know if its the right way to go for AMD. they need to show off some results after the recent sales drops.
Concerning the memory, they are just rebranded Patriot kits.

basically its re branded patriot memory the selling point of it is the quality control measures and making it have the same components time after time. Like current Corsair offerings have multiple revisions along the same part number. this AMD branded ram is not going to have that. So if you buy one kit today and another in 6 months it'll be the exact same suff as you bought 6 months earlier.

Meh, RAM is RAM, it's all the same with different heatsinks, doesn't really what you buy tbh. Obviously, stay away from cheap brands because of them using cheaper parts, but any of the well known brands it's basically all the same.

no each revision can have different IC chips and that may cause instability issues by branding this AMD and insuring that each successive batch is the same chip they can insure product stability thru the entire range. At least thats the hype behind it lol.

Yeah that's why they're taking a step back from us and cutting their losses. I wish they still had the R&D to compete with Intel.

Time will tell on that move, hopefully its a fan oriented choice rather than "we need to renew revenew" after intel took a big "byte" from their processors sales. best of luck AMD.
The bigger a the battle between Giants the better the Ammo(hardwere).
