The guys at Expreview have laid open ZOTAC’s plans of working on a customized GTX 580 card - the manufacturer is hard at work preparing a completely revamped version of the card from the ground up. Expreview has even posted photographs of the disassembled card from ZOTAC.

The GeForce GTX 580 is definitely not the newest kid on the block from NVIDIA, but it continues to command its fans; after all it is still the fastest single-GPU on the market. There have already been several custom version of the GTX 580 by NVIDIA’s partners, but these have largely been restricted to overclocking or custom coolers.

ZOTAC is now out to break this mould and present a truly custom designed card. If the information on Expreview is to be believed, the new card will come with a 16-phase power design and features tantalum capacitors. Now everyone in the tech industry knows that tantalum capacitors are made for ultra-stable operations and keep the card running smoothly even when it is overclocked to the extreme. So that’s good news for the enthusiasts out there.

The images also suggest that ZOTAC will be equipping the GTX 580 with a dual-fan custom cooler, which should be good considering the card is most likely to be tweaked a lot. The fans seem to be 120mm ones and quite capable of blowing lots of air over the GPU parts. Also evident are the 6-pin and 8-pin PCI Express power connectors, multiple video outputs, a DisplayPort, an HDMI port, two DVI connectors, and support for SLI.

The specifications of the card on the hardware side definitely sound impressive and hint at a hardcore gaming GPU. However, there is absolutely no information available on the clock speeds or other performance aspects. So we will have to wait until the official announcement before we can start further more about the card. And where there is no information about the performance, there is bound to be no information about the availability or pricing either.

Keep those fingers crossed ZOTAC comes through with the card soon.

Just wanted to drop a quick hello. Does anyone really read these??

Started watching OC3D on youtube quite a while ago, and was impressed by the overall demeanor of Tom's reviews. Honest, and seems a true tech enthusiast, getting excited about great skus and disappointed with lesser ones; nice to see someone who cares.

Glad to be a part of the community!
