UK to receive OLED TVs next year
"Sexy OLED panels to arrive in the UK come 2009"
Sony's OLED TV's coming to the UK in 2009
OLED's or more accurately organic light emitting diode's are about to come of age it seems. Unlike traditional LCD’s, OLED’s are self-luminous and do not require backlighting, diffusers, polarizers, or any of the other baggage that goes with liquid crystal displays. Their low power consumption provides for maximum efficiency and helps minimise heat and electric interference in electronic devices. OLED displays add less weight and take up less space making them the perfect medium for stylishly flat televisions and/or monitors.
Sony seems to be leading the charge in OLED television development, and their XEL-1
is reportedly going to be the first model available in the UK next year. I'm sure that many of you will agree that the XEL-1 is a beautiful piece of kit, but beware, it comes with a not so attractive price for an itty bitty 11in tele. Yep, the XEL-1 is rumoured to be available next year for a cool £1,250.
...the sexy XEL-1 measures in with a sub-Size 0 waistline just 3mm thick, a resolution of 960x540 pixels and an amazing claimed, contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1. It also hides a digital TV tuner, 1Watt speakers, a HDMI input, Ethernet and USB ports.
Sony are reportedly working on a larger 27in Full HD model and another prototype, so with a little luck the XEL-1 may arrive in the UK with some larger siblings.
Selling a kidney, or auctioning off your sister may the only chance of owning one of these beauties in the short term.
