"Better think twice about that high-end card"

Nvidia to offer DirectX 10.1 card?

Rumour has it that Nvidia's next generation of notebook and desktop GPU's are to support DirectX 10.1. Now this may come as a surprise to many, as Nvidia have declined to comment when their GPU's will support the API. Even though AMD's GPU's have supported the technology for some time now. According to our source, Nvidia's new notebook GPU's will be first to receive the  API.

A presentation slide we received, but unfortunately cannot share with you in order to protect our source, clearly states that Nvidia will offer DirectX 10.1 support with its next-generation notebook GPUs that are scheduled for a spring 2009 release. DirectX 10.1 is also likely to be offered in the next desktop GPU generation, which should debut either late in Q4 2008 or Q1 2009, with a possible ramp throughout Q1 and Q2 of 2009.

When Nvidia's new GPU's arrive sporting the DirectX 10.1 API at least it may take some confusion out of the mix when deciding which card to purchase.

Decisions, decisions, decisions! Do you spend significantly on a high-end card now or wait until Nvidia's new GPU's arrive?
