News of a Titanium Edition GeForce GTX 560 from NVIDIA has been making the rounds for the last several days and the official release date is rumored to be January 25. With such a card in the offing from NVIDIA, can competitor AMD be far behind? The latest news in the GPU war is that AMD partner Gigabyte is coming through with its overclocked and custom-cooled 1GB Radeon HD 6950 card to counter the GeForce GTX 560 Ti threat.

Sapphire and HIS have already confirmed their intentions of creating a 1GB Radeon HD 6950 and today Gigabyte too has added its voice to the confirmation. Gigabyte’s 1GB card has been codenamed the GV-R6950OC-1GD and is supposedly an all new Ultra-Durable design from the card maker. It has been mounted with Gigabyte’s proprietary and highly acclaimed WindForce 3X cooler, which boasts of three cooling fans and all copper cooling elements.

The card has been factory overclocked to an out-of-the-box core clock speed of 870 MHz and a memory clock speed of 5000 MHz. The memory interface is a 256-bit one and the card fully supports CrossFireX technology. Gigabyte has also used high quality components including a 2oz copper PCB and solid caps to make the GV-R6950OC-1GD a fully mainstream card that can be expected to be highly stable even in demanding conditions.

Other specifications of the card include dual-DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort outputs. Additional information about the card including availability and pricing are expected to make an appearance shortly.

Thanks for the welcoming all you Guys,

I'm finalising my new rig, nothing too fancy, I run a small business so a gamer UFO model is not my style. Pretty 'classic':

Corsair 600T
Asus P8P67 Deluxe Motherboard
Intel Core i7 2600K
4 x 2 Gig standard 1333 Mhz DRAM
Noctua NH-D14
Plextor PX-B320SA
OCZ Vertex 2 120 GB
Sapphire AMD 6950
And a Mass Storage HDD which I will recover from one of my 2 servers when I find time to replace the current drive in there with a 2 TB Caviar Black

I could write something up about the build (observations etc.) if anyone's interested, but maybe better put that in another forum division ?.

Cheers,

Billeman
