A Hall of Fame graphics card from Galaxy has been expected for some while now and the manufacturer has obliged by coming forth with its GeForce GTX 460 HOF GPU. Tech site Expreview has come through with tons of pics of the new card, which reportedly sports a digital power supply (Image courtesy: Expreview).
A non-reference GPU created specifically for mainstream users, the Galaxy GeForce GTX 460 Hall of Fame card features a GF 104 core with 336 stream processors. The core clock is set to run at 850MHz, while the shader has been clocked at 1700MHz. The 1GB of GDDR5 memory has a clock speed of 1000MHz on a 256-bit interface.
While the clock specifications are more or less reference, the biggest change in the card is the non-reference PCB utilized by Galaxy - it is a rare white one. The Galaxy GeForce GTX 460 HOF card is also the first GTX 460 GPU to be equipped with digital power supply technology. Different from the regular power supply found in normal GTX 460 cards, the digital power supply in this card had a 6pin + 8pin design, resulting in two phase memory power supply.
Galaxy has also used a horizontal cooling technology in the new card. This lets the cooler keep not just the core but also the power supply and memory nicely cooled at all times. The cooler has a copper base with aluminum cooling fins. Four copper heatpipes of 6mm each coupled with a 12V 0.45A fan pump in enough air to keep the entire apparatus running coolly and quietly.
For connectivity, Galaxy has put in one HDMI, one DisplayPort and a DVI display output connector. The overall package is a card that is high on specifications. It now remains to be seen when the card hits retail shelves and what price tag it will carry.
