Well according to our source it appears that AMD are extremely busy readying R600's replacement - the R650. Citing both heat and heat dissipation as major factors in the decision, it seems that AMD are eager to replace R600 as quickly as possible.

The R600 chip is simply too hot and it has terrible heat dissipation and this problem has to be fixed. Dissipation of 230+ Watts is simply too much for any graphic chip and any standard.

I must say that I find this revelation, if there is any truth to it, quite amusing. There's nothing like bolstering confidence in your flagship product by redesigning its replacement before it has even seen the light of day.

The music seems to be only OEM, can I confirm this comes with the front connectivity or is that just wishful thinking

I use a X-Fi Xtreme Music with my Logitech Z-5500's and they sound pretty awesome

Cant comment on what difference you will see though as I changed speakers and sound card at the same time.

I will be expecting a massive difference as i will be getting both at the same time as well, medusa sl-8790 and the x-fi music.

Other stuff in the pipeline too but these will come first as I need them most (decent air cooling and complete upgrade to follow) My logic is that chips will go down where as these will always stay at the current price more or less.

I am on onboard sound and sennheiser (music headphones atm)

Sorry about the link not working anymore, I just cutted & pasted what was on the address bar. The link was just these two pics anyway, no text.

The thing is - the fatal1ty FPS has optical out which works great - why does it say not on the data sheet?

Maybe the FlexiJack: Optical Out + Digital I/O columns refer to the ports on the back of the card, and the optical out you're talking about comes under the AD-EXT6 column (X-Fi I/O Drive)?

These are official Creative pics btw. You can navigate to them through Creative's home page -> Support -> Knowledge Base -> (choose your country) -> X-Fi -> 2 SID26156 X-Fi Sound Cards Compared.

Phew :).

Xtrememusic - Great sounding.

Shame about no optical out...I have to use coaxial to 3.5mm jack in the digital connection to use my speakers. Then take it out, replace with my mic 3.5mm jack everytime i want to use microphone - not fun

Yeah, with the XtremeMusic I sometimes miss all the options of having an IO panel. Had the LiveDrive before and I could connect everything but the kitchen sink into it.
