AMD Bridges HD2600 To HD2900 Gap
AMD is planning to fill their mid-range graphics card gap between the HD2600 and the HD2900 with the RV670 GPU. The RV670 GPU itself will essentially be a R600 die shrink (from 80nm to 55nm process) clocked at 600mhz with 320 stream processors. However, the actual card will only utilize 256MB of Hynix DDR3 memory, as opposed to the 512MB-1GB DDR3/4 memory of the R600 boards.
According to AMD guidance, the RV670 GPU will feature integrated Shader Model 4.1 capability along with PCI Express 2.0 support and utilizes a single-slot cooler. Also, while no corporate mention of Crossfire capability was made, the pictures clearly show Crossfire interconnects.
This card will likely be officially added to AMD's lineup Q1 of 2008. No mentions of pricing have been made.
