Playstation Home....it's been rumoured for a long time but now we've finally managed to get a taster at OC3D.

What do we think??

It's actually pretty damn good. The thought of it really didn't bother me but after having an hour or so's play it's really good and it's really worth the wait.

You start off in an apartment - I got a dockside apartment. Obviously there's the classic avatar making to get done, including clothes, hairdo and appearance. Clothes are pretty basic right now but I imagine there will be a huge range to choose from eventually which will be awesome for those wanting their own 'look'.

You then move into an introduction to what you can do, including gestures, dancing, text speak and it goes on from there....

The world really is at your fingertips here and it's surprisingly good.

Interaction is well managed with text and audio chateasy to do. People are interacting nicely as I type, dancing to a demo of wipeout HD in the cinema part of home and text chatting.

It has to be said, that the mini-games are pretty cool for a quick diversion and I had a good few games of bowling and pool...

The cinema is pretty good too, although I'm sure all the content is in the store, it's a nicer way of accessing it by 'sitting' your avatar in a cinema.

The square is a good place to go and chill your avatar out, perhaps check out a game of draughts, or just have a sit.

Obviously there's a lot more to home and I'm sure the opportunities are almost endless, but I've only had a short look and thought our OC3D Readers would like a peek!

All in all I'm pretty impressed by Playstation Home. Even if you didn't get a Beta invite, it will be well worth checking it out on

Note: all pictures were taken of the actual Beta running on our PS3, by a digital camera.

I'll admit this looks pretty awesome. Will it be sold as a game, or included with every PS3 as an update? I don't know much about it, apart from the fact it looks awesome.

Nice screenies BTW, the graphics on PS3 are very impressive.

It will come in an update afaik unless its optional?

So as long as you have a psn...sony will randomly email you?

it's ok but the loading screens are annoying..

my dad did his character as my mum so i just finished watching a movie on the ps3 and me and my brother had a game of bowling on it and some guy started to hit on us! :D we played along for a bit saying we was from liverpool and he loves scouse accents.. then we told him we was a bloke and he started shaking his fists.. owned xD

LO0L :)

My friend got an invite :(, I feel so left out! The people they send the invite to are people who brought a game off PSN. I normally buy loads of games, my friend buys 1 thing and get's an invite.

The hype has gone now, I'm tired of waiting, Sony disapointed me :(, I must of spent over £200 on games now.

I really don't know how sony picks up thier beta tester, i believe it is totally random as i didn't apply to anything. I did buy a few games on PSN maybe that's one of their cirteria, dunno...

anyway i have been exploring a bit and the first observation i have to make is why the heck it is not in 1080p??? however visually it is pretty nice...
i spent quite some time to create my avatar, lots of settings to adjust and you can get a pretty decent clone of yourself LOL

had a few text chat with some folks there, works well... i did hear some audio chat going on but dunno if it is just for me, the sound was not really clear and pretty discontinuous... maybe some traffic congestion!?

it's pretty cool to look at the game trailers in the movie theate or on the various board outside...

haven't play any game yet but will give it a try when i have more time...

globally it is a very nice experience and the only annoying thing so far i can really see if the loading time between each location... hope it can be improved in the final version...

but for a freebie i think sony has a winner... i didn't try the xbox counterpart, but the friends who own a 360 and who saw Home beta were pretty envious ;)

i think for a freebie it's excellent has a lot of potential, i can see them making quite a bit of money from it for all the buyable extras, eg furniture and such....
i have noticed a few people with clothing items that don't appear in my wardrobe so that has made me wonder if the shops were populated with things and now are not?
its very pretty but doesn't look like its in proper 1080p (my telly says it is, my eyes say it's not) and the aliasing on even the startup logo is quite painful lol, something as simple as that should be sharper than it it :(
but it's early days... it's very promising and can take a lot of your time up trying to get a large group of randomers all doing the running man :) (my last count was 15 people i've never seen before all dancing the same... quite funny)
notice how for every girl there are 5 + guys, and they're usually all sat/surrounding/chatting up the girls lol... quite funny

Well you think they are girls...most probably guys getting off on the fact they can play as one :p

And before you say.. its not from experience lol

haha probably, they'll have to implement some kind of admin structure otherwise all hell will break loose. it does say that any and all communication can and will be monitored/recorded/ and filed for use in legalities.. which is actually pretty scary lol
