X48 Boards Showing Up Soon
Although Intel has not yet officially announced its high-end X48 chipset, some first-tier motherboard makers started shipping boards in small volumes a few days ago. Mass shipping will start in the middle of March, according to sources in the channel.
Asustek Computer and Gigabyte Technology both started shipping the motherboards this week.
In additional to the X48, Intel will launch a P45 chipset in the second quarter of 2008, while the first-tier motherboard makers have already started showcasing their P45-based motherboards.

If you've got the £40 in your pocket then yes it's worth it in the long run, if not then the GT is still a decent card
As you say you want to future proof, the GTX might be the better option, but only if that £40 is there.
From what i've read, the difference isn't so much that you'll notice it in anything other than your electric bill.

Sorry, are you saying the GTX (G80) is future proof more so than the GTS (G92)?

As your an admin, I'm assuming you know your stuff... I shall order the 512 GTS (Asus Top) and then report back on my findings........
I wonder if it'll be better than my current card haha.....
What res you playing at? Anything up to 1680 x 1050 and the GTS is the better card
how much of a difference would I see between G92 8800GT and the GTS @ 1680X1050?
I doubt you'd see huge amounts and it would depend on your card. I've not specifically tested this but at 1920 x 1200 there are differences - see my review :)

You might see a slight improvement over your current card ;)
Re. the differences at your res, don't forget once you OC your GTS it pulls away more hand that headroom will do you good in the future.

Well the GTS I'm looking at (£230) is already OC'd by Asus to 740MHz/2070MHz... That's as high as I've seen the GTS clocked....
Only reason I was interested in the GTX XXX was because it is only and extra £30 over the GTS?.......
If I was to buy a cheap GTS at around £160 and OC it myself (I don't know how to yet), would that be the better option?
