MSI has its upcoming Big Bang Conqueror motherboard on display at CES and according to TweakTown, which spotted it there, the board is based on the AMD 990FX chipset. Designed to accommodate AMD’s next generation AM3+ processors, the Big Bang motherboard has reportedly been designed keeping top-line gamers and enthusiasts in mind.

AMD has already revealed quite a lot about its Bulldozer platform (also known as Zambezi) including the fact that the first set will come with 8 cores, 16MB of cache, and DDR3 memory. The specifications of MSI’s Big Bang Conqueror mainboard match these quite nicely. For starters, MSI has used it’s new Military Class II components in the mainboard, which should make the board quite sturdy and long lasting.

Going by the pictures, the Conqueror has a 10-phase VRM for the CPU power. There are four slots for dual-channel DDR3 memory, which is more or less standard. MSI has gone with two different PCI-E graphics slots - two each of black and blue. It is quite evident that the blue slots will support 16 lanes of full AMD Crossfire technology, which should make the motherboards a graphics’ delight.

Then there are the three PCI-E 2.0 x16 expansion slots (electrical x16/16/NC or x16/x8/x8), one PCI-E x16 (electrical x4), two PCI-E x1, and one PCI slots. For storage, MSI has equipped the Big Bang Conqueror with six internal SATA 6 Gb/s, two eSATA connectors. For the overclockers and enthusiasts, MSI has integrated its proprietary OC Genie technology into the Big Bang Conqueror, which should give a significant yet stable boost to the processor as and when needed.

Finally, there are additional connectivity options on the board including USB 3.0, gigabit ethernet, FireWire, and WiFi. Audio is in the form of 8-channel surround with optical and coaxial S/PDIF. All of these no doubt make the Big Bang Conqueror a very attractive board for enthusiasts, but they still might have to wait a while it. There’s absolutely nothing from the manufacturer in terms of availability or pricing.
