Intel Delays 45nm Quads

"Intel has decided to delay three of its 45nm quad-core CPUs for competitive reasons"

Search News

Motherboard manufacturers have given word that Intel plans to delay the launch of three of its 45nm quad-core CPUs: the Q9300, Q9450, and Q9550.  The reason: AMD is not a threat.  AMD's recent releases have not proved to be strong enough to intrude on Intel's market share and thus a launch now would only hurt the sales of Intel's current 65nm CPUs.

The processors were originally scheduled for release in January of next year.  Intel has given word that the launch will still occur in quarter 1 of 2008, possibly in February or March depending on AMD's schedule for their tri-core and Phenom processors.
