GIGABYTE today became the first manufacturer to come through with a Mini-ITX motherboard for AMD’s new Brazos chips. The GA-E350N-USB3 board is part of GIGABYTE’s small form factor HTPC motherboard range.

Designed around the AMD E-350 Dual-Core Processor, the GA-E350N-USB3 motherboard also features the AMD Radeon HD 6310 graphics card. Ultra-smooth HD playback for Blu-Ray content and hi-definition 7.1 surround sound audio with S/PDIF make the new motherboard a great one for video addicts.

GIGABYTE’s On/Off Charge technology means the board is fully capable of connecting to and quickly charging portable devices such as iPad, iPhone, and iPod. The onboard Renasas (NEC) controller and GIGABYTE’s 3x USB Power Boost also let users draw the maximum possible speed out of their USB storage devices when connected to any of the USB 3.0 ports.

The board’s design is GIGABYTE’s own Ultra Durable 3 Classic, with twice the amount of copper found in a traditional motherboard PCB. This gives the GA-E350N-USB3 significantly higher power efficiency while keeping it far cooler compared to other boards. GIGABYTE has also used all solid Japanese capacitors to further enhance its durability. As the board has been designed for extreme usage, GIGABYTE has taken care of back-up too by including its DualBIOS technology that provides users with a back-up BIOS when the main BIOS goes kaput.

“We’re excited about the GA-E350N-USB3 motherboard because it’s the first all-in-one Mini-ITX board with DX11 capabilities, and we expect it to go a long way towards bridging the gap between discrete and integrated graphics performance," commented Tim Handley, Deputy Director of Motherboard Marketing at GIGABYTE Technology Co. Ltd. "With its specially designed low profile fansink and multitude of hi-def, high-speed connectors, we expect this little power house to be popular amongst HTPC system integrators, DIY enthusiasts and case modders.”

The GA-E350N-USB3 should be available shortly, though pricing has not yet been announced.

The unthinkable is becoming closer to reality it seems. The idea of AMD working hand in hand with little to no issue with a companion Nvidia GPU has come to light with the recent press release from LucidLogix. More info explains:

my iMac and MacBook Pro do that already

iMac has an ATi Radeon 5770 gpu, and intel onboard graphics, it swaps as needed depending on load

and my MacBook Pro has intel inbuilt and nvidia 320m ...again, swapping as needed

There are a lot of notebooks that do that, in nVidia's case the technology is called Optimus. It switches between the integrated and discrete graphics card on the go. You can use one or the other.

But that's not what Lucid's Virtu technology is about.
