ASUS Support 32nm CPUs

ASUS have today announced that their X58 motherboards will be the first to support the upcoming 32nm Intel processors, thanks to a BIOS upgrade on your existing motherboard.

The Intel 32nm processors are based upon the LGA1366 socket available with the X58 chipset and supports up to six multi-cores.

Chie-Wei Lin, General Manager of ASUS Motherboards said :

“This new processor architecture accommodates up to six cores and significantly improves CPU performance. By enabling the architecture in our award-winning X58-based motherboards, we can deliver one of the fastest personal computing platforms in history and we are very excited about it.”

ASUS whole range of X58 motherboards is ready once users perform a simple upgrade on their existing X58 motherboards.

No arguments here.

Can only remember back in the AMD K7 days, another time where I actively cringe when people propose they're including i7 in their rig specs.

Not cos i7 as a piece of tech is crap, very much far from it, it's actually very good along with i5 and so on. But in comparison to people's existing rigs, which more often than not is something 775 based, just dumping all their cash into a gfxcard will give them a far better return.

AMD offer attractive propositions atm, not in so much as they spank the other camp, but AMD to AMD if ur a fan, times are still semi-exciting whilst still being a bit more cash effective. Especially for a gamer. I'd almost recommend a current AM2 person go AM2+/AM3 just for the continuity, familiarity and for me the classic move by AMD that the chances are u can just buy a mobo and ur AM2 cpu will work in it til u can afford a new cpu. That's unprecedented in tech society today.

Professional users with bags of cash and solid ability for their software to use the benefits of i7 - no problem, I'd not hesitate the upgrade.

775 tho, the majority reach 3.6-3.8ghz, 4ghz being the happy zone, some 4.2 - that's mostly Q9xxx & E8xxx on air. Without messing too much the posts shift to 4ghz to 4.2ghz on air with the i7, but benchmarking aside, after a few weeks or putting the 2 rigs side by side, the comparison of the old 775 rig and i7 is strictly speaking negligible. In real world stuff it's poor.

Why would they advertise the fact that they support something you can't buy?

EVGA and Foxconn have also supported i9 for weeks, probably others too. It's hardly big news.

Lots of people buy PC components thinking they are 'future-proofing' their machine. It's a common misconception :p. Despite this, it may help perk up their sales, and so it's probably a good idea to announce as it may persuade more people to get their product over the alternative, especially if they haven't done their research (like so many).

if i take a look in the latest BIOS for my GB board, it contains the CPU microcode for Gulftown/i9 (06C0) already and has done for the last few releases...

motherboard makers almost always add new codes for extra CPU support early (usually without making big announcements) so that engineers etc. can test the engineering samples before release

as Peter said, not exactly big news imho
all 1366 boards should get an update for i9 support

.... could be cruel at this point and mention that it is ASUS, and if u've every been some1 who's had cause to fight with, or trawl their support for assistance, driver, or indeed BIOS upd8s, u'll favor the relevence in the announcement that they've released the upd8 ....

But I'd never say anything like that, and +1 for GB mobos in general tbh :p
