AMD Trialing New Chipset Pair
AMD are getting ready to begin the testing of their upcoming 890GX northbridge and SB850 southbridge, designed to replace the popular 790GX and SB750 combination in the upcoming months. The 890GX northbridge chip is an upgraded 790GX, whilst the graphics chip still runs at 700Mhz, it now supports DirectX 10.1 and UVD 2.0. It can be configured to run two ATI cards in a crossfire configuration at speeds of x8 for each card.
The SB850 southbridge is an upgrade of the previous SB750 southbridge chipset, with the only major difference being the native support for the third generation SATA interface, or SATA 6Gbps. AMD say the new pair will be launched in early 2010.
