think you could install it into your comp along with a normal hDD but just us it the way you would a usb stik or external hardrive?Quote

08-08-2008, 11:00:25

sbrehm72255
It looks to have standard SATA connectors, so it should beable to work in a desktop computer as a boot drive.Quote

08-08-2008, 11:03:02

geddyhead
by boot drive what do you mean. basically what i would want to do is install it so i could put my music collection on there rather than my hardrive so i can just keep transferring it from comp to comp when i upgrade. so it doesnt need a OS intalled on it basically. like it has just been plugged in the usb.Quote

08-08-2008, 11:18:59

mrbios
why would you waste a perfectly good SSD drive by using it as music storage geddyhead.... you sicken me!!

you could probably happily connect it up to an ESATA port as if it were a USB driveQuote

08-08-2008, 11:23:27

haha... needs must i guess. what wouldyou recommend it for then?? and ace my MB had an esata (Y) heheQuote

08-08-2008, 11:26:35

mrbios
Hmm what would i use it for... well i reckon i would use it as a boot drive, speedy windows boot times and quick searching would be a bonus

But then i would also be tempted to use it for my steam folder as i play A LOT of CSS and TF2 (practically the only games i ever play...oh and Final fantasy 7 )

I reckon i would be tempted to buy a second and RAID them just out of curiosityQuote

08-08-2008, 11:28:28

geddyhead
this is a plan, just trying to confirm whether it would work now lol.. i used to play CSS yet to install it atm lol... what do you mean by boot drive?Quote

08-08-2008, 11:33:41

Boot drive being the drive containing the OS, id probably try a dual boot off it, one with XP and one with Vista64Quote

95% of programs will ask you where you would like to install them, so you can just select a second drive for everything else i guess and just install the odd few things onto the SSD drive for speedy access

I used to use a 36gb raptor as the boot drive for a vista install so im used to having to change the install path for programs now haha

You can also change the default install path: http://www.windowsnetworking.com/kbase/WindowsTips/WindowsXP/AdminTips/Miscellaneous/Changedefaultapplicationinstallationfolder.htmlQuote

Would i need to put one as primary etc. Both will be SATA so should i plug both of them in together. Will i be able to specify where the OS is installed?

Please explain heheQuote

Yes. OC3D, find that girl, hire her, and make her your booth babe. When you're not at a convention, she can serve you coffee and pick up your pencils when you drop them. If you do this, I suggest that you heavily invest in spare pencils.

Eyh, my mobo is working just fine, thankyouverymuch. :P Although I've got one of the 8800GTS in for an RMA as we speak (but it's now taken residence in my GF's rig) :P I guess I'll be getting a 4870 or something like that soon, depends on what the verdict is on the GFX-card. But either way, maybe I'll finally convert to Vista with my brand spanking new SSD. Quote

22-08-2008, 21:27:57

just ive had a ton of issues with that board which is shocking from asus but yeah that ssd should dominate any OS you through at itQuote

22-08-2008, 21:34:11

Phoenix
I only had issues with it when I got my first one, as it wouldn't co-operate with my Q6600. A few BIOS-releases later and it was all good. And now it's as stable as any. And I even got an extra for free when I RMA'ed the first one cause of a faulty S/PDIF-connector, and that's why the missus got her own computer. :P

As for the OS, I've been waiting for an excuse to install Vista, and now, seeing that I've won a fast new disk with the perfect amount of space, I could install it without having to delete a lot of (not so useful) data. Quote
