PUBG will soon cease functioning with ReShade installed as part of anti-cheating update

PUBG Corp has announced that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds’ new anti-cheat update will bring with it several restrictions, blocking “helper programs” that are designed to alter the game graphics or gameplay.

While using some of these apps will not automatically ban a player, their use will prevent the game from running, forcing users to uninstall these programs to allow the game to run correctly. These programs may not be cheats, but they can interact with the game in a similar fashion, hooking into and changing game files in a way that is similar to cheats.

One of the tools that will be affected by this is ReShade, requiring users to uninstall the software to allow the game to function normally. Some users will also need to re-install the title to re-enable functionality. A guide for uninstalling ReShade is available to read here.

The new anti-cheat feature will block different helper programs that alter the graphics or aid in gameplay in some way. What these programs have in common is that they all hook into our game and transform game files. Programs that are not used to gain an unfair advantage can also be blocked if they behave like cheats.

One of the popular programs that will be blocked is ReShade. You will not be banned for having it on system but you will no longer be able to play PUBG while it is installed. Please uninstall ReShade (or any other blocked program) and launch the game again. Some players may find that reinstalling PUBG is also necessary.

With the release of this update, Nvidia ShadowPlay and several other capture programs may be blocked temporarily by these new anti-cheating measures, though these harmless tools will be whitelisted in future iterations of the PUBG’s new anti-cheating tools.

PUBG Corp has provided a link where players can report applications that are blocked by PUBG’s anti-cheating system, allowing the company to start work on the problem quickly. PUBG’s program anti-cheat reporting form is available here.

Some programs that do not affect gameplay may be blocked temporarily (NVIDIA ShadowPlay, video / audio capture programs, etc.) as we hone the new anti-cheat features. We will be dealing with these cases as soon as possible. If a harmless program is blocked, please report it in this form.
