Metro Redux Release date revealed

Earlier in the year 4A Games and Deep Silver are bringing the iconic Metro series to the next generation in the form of a full visual and gameplay overhaul called Metro Redux. METRO REDUX features fully re-mastered and improved versions of both METRO 2033 and METRO: LAST LIGHT, creating the most compelling and beautiful Metro experience ever.

This new version of Metro will arrive later this month on the 29/08/2014 and will arrive with re-worked next-gen visuals, smooth 60FPS gameplay at a resolution of 1080p (on next gen consoles, potentially higher on a beefy PC), as well as new and improved game content and gameplay features, METRO REDUX will be much more than a simple HD upgrade.

For the REDUX edition, Metro 2033 has been completely overhauled, rebuilt in the latest and greatest iteration of the 4A Engine which brings all the graphical and gameplay improvements from Metro Last Light to Metro 2033 Redux.

Metro: Last Light Redux has also received a graphical facelift, though not as substantial an upgrade as 2033 receives, and gameplay improvements that carry across both titles, including new melee animations, and the fan-requested ‘Check Watch’ and ‘Check Inventory’ features and will includes all previously released DLC content for Last light.

With METRO REDUX, players now have the choice to experience both Metro games in a brand new way with the introduction of two unique ‘Play Styles.’

Those who enjoyed the more survival horror oriented gameplay of Metro 2033 can play both 2033 and Last Light campaigns in the ‘Survival’ Play Style, a fraught slow-burn fight for survival with limited resources, deadlier enemy AI, and slower reload speeds.

Fans of the more action oriented gameplay of Metro: Last Light can try the ‘Spartan’ Play Style, providing Artyom with a powerful set of combat skills and more plentiful resources.

The good news for us PC brethren is that those who already own Metro 2033 and/ or Last light on steam will receive a discount when purchasing their re-mastered counterparts. So for those looking to replay these great games with their new gameplay modes and more modernized graphics need not pay full price for the privilege.

"Only Steam, Metro owners get a special discount to upgrade to the new Redux versions:
Metro 2033 owners can upgrade to Metro 2033 Redux for 50% off, and get 25% off the Metro Redux bundle.
Metro: Last Light owners can upgrade to Metro: Last Light Redux for 50% off, and also get 25% off the Metro Redux bundle.
Owners of both Metro games get 50% off the Metro Redux bundle."

So what are my opinions on this, well I think it is great to see a game get a "HD remake" and not just get a resolution bump and a few new textures but also brand new game modes, mechanics and player experiences. Even the amount of times the game needs to load in a playthrough changes, where in 2033 you enter a door and the game fades into a loading screen Redux lets you go through the door and continue playing, a great thing to see indeed.

It is also great to see that many of us PC users will also get a discount when purchasing these new versions, provided you have already purchased their older counterparts. Many of us could argue that Last Light is not much more than a year old, but the prospect of regaining the "survival" aspects of the Original game may be worth the price for some.

Metro 2033 Redux, Metro: Last Light Redux are scheduled for release on the 29th of August on Next Gen (now current Gen) Consoles and Windows PC, later this month, with a dedicated Linux and SteamOS version will be release later in the year.
