Rage Against The Machine For Xmas N.1

Buy it now

Join the Revolution!

RATMWith Xfactors song releases almost being given a direct pass to number one, OC3D has decided to join the fight to make to try and make sure that Simon Cowell can not buy another yacht this Christmas.

A revolution recently started on Facebook and now has over 100,000 followers, the thing is not everyone has bought a copy of Rage Against The Machine - Killing in the Name Of,  but its available here from Amazon for just £0.29p! You only have until this Sunday so don't put it off till its too late, BUY NOW!

So far RATM is doing pretty well in the charts, but if all the Facebook followers bought 1 copy each then we would almost certainly stop another Simon Cowell number one!

So OC3D proudly join the fight and urge all its members to spend just 29p this Christmas on a track that should be in your collection anyways, together we can make a difference!

Let the people unite and make this an Xfactor N.1 free Christmas

You can discuss this, and many other topics in our forums.

So I figured a fair few of you on here would appreciate this too:

Are you getting fed up about the possibility of ANOTHER X-Factor Christmas No.1? ...us too...so we're going to do something about it!

We are all buying a download of 'KILLING IN THE NAME' by RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE right NOW! until the end of Saturday 19th December (23:59pm).

http://bit.ly/inthename

At 29p for a download from Amazon (it's been confirmed to count towards the chart), I didn't see a reason not to partake :P

PS. Even if you don't like the song, you should think about taking part too!Quote

In this thread, people who don't realise charts are based on "sales and airplay" and even if everyone who hates x-factor brought Killing in the Name of, X-Factor would still be #1

If nobody brought it, it would be #1 on airplay aloneQuote

Think about it. Last year's X Factor Christmas release, Alexandra Burke's cover of 'Hallelujah', sold 576,000 copies in its first week. Even if all 300,000 members of the RATM Facebook group bought the track – which of course they won't – it'd still be dwarfed by the inevitable monster sales of Joe McElderry's winning song (yeah, I went there: Joe's a dead cert to win).

Plus, if you really want to rage against the Simon Cowell machine, 'Killing In The Name' is a bizarre song to pick, since it's a Sony BMG catalogue track – just like 'Hallelujah', 'Don't Stop Believin', and all those other tunes which mysteriously crop up on The X Factor time and again.

In case you're unaware of the corporate link, Sony BMG have exclusive rights to Simon Cowell's artists. His own label, Syco, is owned by Sony. He's hardly likely to be soiling his high-waisted trousers over the prospect of a few thousand extra download sales of 'Killing In The Name'. He's probably got shares in the company.

I know i'll get some stick for this, but i think its a bit stupid. Why does RATM deserve to be christmas number 1 anymore than the x-factor winner?

It's clear as daylight that RATM couldnt do a decent track so they had to use a dirty trick like this. There doing this for publicity plain and simple and not thinking of the people who it damages. yeah merry christmas to them too.

i'm actually ashamed to see it's even been put on the front page.Quote

Got to agree with nathan, don't like RATM either. But that might be because I don't like their whole music style.

Got to say 'no' to the x-factor hype though. Not that it would make the x-factor stop broadcasting their stupid shows but at least it shows we don't appreciate them.Quote

lol, we dont appreciate them! you or i might not. But the 3rd of the UK that tuned into watch might say otherwise.

The X-factor winner will only get to number one if the public like the song and buy it. the way the top 40 should work. There shouldnt be a number 1 because of a social cult following. thats hardly having a number 1 on merit.

but thats just me...Quote

Ahem hate to be the ballon popper BUT its got nothing to do with the band its a husband and wife who have started the Facebook group as they were sick of x factor been thrown down there throats every year just like I and 750k other people are.

And the reason RATM were choose is because of the lyrics its got nothing to do with labels or the band its purely for the lyrics.Quote

No balloon popping today matey as my points are still valid. The top 40 has always working on the number of records sold, you sell records when people like the music, simple. People obviusly like the music.

I'm not sure how the x-factor track is being thrown down peoples throats? there not being held ransom to go buy the track..

and what about the other 20m that love it?Quote

Nathan, it isn't going to number 1 because all these people like the song, otherwise Miley Cyrus would have had a number 1 with it less than 10 bloody months ago when it was released.

When it was released it hit the dizzy heights of number 82 and eventually got to number 11 in the chart in June....

That pretty much shows that people are buying it because they like the show and the person that won the show.... Not the song.

Oh yeah and why on gods earth are they covering a song that isn't even a year old?Quote

its been confirmed amazon purchases are counting

something to do with wholesale vs retail price

but yeh it says amazon works on facebook

oh and its not really to do with a social cult

its almost like RATM lyrics

standing up against the usual

do somethin revolutionary like

its not like its happening every month/year like eurovision voting tactics

merely, see here, we can do this, power to the people kinda thing

also punishment for simon cowell for fixing the show by keeping the twins in (dire!) and allowing "talent" to be dropped out for less competition for his own

dont watch the show anyway and i like ratm, so it would be pretty cool to hear it rocking out at xmas and will hopefully show the people still have power!Quote

The reason it's the same is because pop sells. The Beatles knew this and so does Cowell, 3 chord melodies that look good.... simple.

What we need now is an alternative to pop band that can rival this, bring back The Quo !

edit; backing a 17 year old tune to compete with todays taste isn't exactly saying much for today's musical generation.Quote

Thought about something similar to that yesterday.

Think the point people want to make in the main tho is about the manufactured sheet.

Personally, if the song was a really good christmas one - no problem. U gotta go back a good number of years for a good christmas song. A big reason for old classics being played all the time and that damned charity one.Quote

Just heard a clip of the x-factor thing.

It's beyond lame in all respects. If it does get No.1 for xmas, I think it's time to create an underground "peoples" music scene, wholey online perhaps, with it's own awards and based on figures that are probably available online that are better representable.Quote

good job it's not about who makes the money.

When I buy a record of my favourite band I don't think "who is making money out of this" or "Simon Cowel makes money out of this I will not buy"

Really hope the XFactor don't get to number one, I don't watch xfactor or anything and find it quite funny how people can be passionate about it given the lack of musical skills of the acts

Looks like RATM are number one from the tweets on twitter

http://www.music.co.uk/music-news/call-ratm-christmas-number-1.html

Nigel Pauley, the ‘veteran showbiz hack’ claims via his twitter “RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE TOP CHARTS – official. By around 52,000 copieson last figures… “

and Paulhitsheet who is a “well connected publisher of tastemaking subscriber based music magazine hit sheet” claims “502,672 vs 450,838 but i’m not saying who or what those statistics mean. Go figure it out yourselves but one nil to the real evil empire!!!! “

The difference between the Paulhitsheet figures is 51,834 which is close enough to Nigel Pauley’s 52,000 to make us think they have seen the same stats.
