Google Buys Twitch for $1 Billion

It has now been confirmed that Google has bought the livestreaming firm Twitch for $1 Billion. At present we do not know much about this deal apart from the fact it has happened. It is expected that in the coming days and weeks we will learn the ins and outs of the deal as well as the exact purchase price.

Those that invested previously in Twitch are no doubt pleased, as they will be making several times what they originally invested in the firm.

At present both companies have declined to comment in the acquisition, but I expect them to make an official announcement soon.

Google’s YouTube division is reportedly in charge of this new purchase, which would represent a significant transformation in YouTube’s business. Many of you will remember when Google acquired YouTube in 2006 for $1.65 billion, and now they are buying potential competitors for similar amounts of money.

Google now owning both the largest internet video platform Youtube and the current No. 1 streaming platform Twitch will certainly mean very interesting changes for both the content delivery platforms. At present these changes remain unclear.
