Leaked! AMD Radeon HD 8990 Dual-GPU Specs

A Spanish website, BitDreams has published what it claims to be the spec list for the upcoming next-gen Dual-GPU, the HD 8990

The Venus XTX HD 8990, which is basically two Radeon 8970's bound to a single GPU, which sport; 5.1 billion transistors, 5210 stream processors and 160 texture units per core. The roadmap also states HD 8990 will feature 48 ROPs per core, and two 384-bit buses. Memory between 6GB and 12GB and should come factory clocked at 1250MHz. The GPU cores should be set at 950MHz if all this is to be believed. However, we have heard of the new GPU's being called something else behind closed doors and not the obvious 8 or 9000 series

The leak suggests that we should expect to see this monstrous chip in Q2 2013, which, by my calculations, means soon!

Come and discuss this over in our forums

Q2 2013 was, by my calculations, a couple of months ago. Quote

The 9xxx series may not even be the 9xxx

AMD are supposed to be announcing the new cards on the 25th according to a rumour a while ago.

There is bound to be a dual card though, should be a beast if the rumours are true that one 9790 or what ever it will be called is faster than a 780.Quote

I'm presuming this 8990 will go buy a different name, as you can get it on some prebuild desktops already (such as falienware).Quote

4820k* And aren't these out already?

And meh... I don't believe any rumours. Will wait until they actually announce the card, then actually release the card and THEN we can see it tested.Quote

The 4820k is already available where I live:
http://tweakers.net/pricewatch/34790...20k-boxed.html

All the webshops with the green little truck with 24 above them have 24 hour delivery on it.

Anyway, we're going way off topic here Quote

Maybe amd will go the same way nv did with the titan and call it something big sounding. My ideas
Behemoth
Brick
Chunk
The pig
Deuce
krakatoa
Other name for large volcano somewhere in the world
Or my favourite

If it's actually quicker than anything Nvidia has they should just call it:

wouldn't two 8990s in crossfire be quadfire (or whatever it is called, if there is a term) and wouldn't that be a whole new world of driver issues? :PQuote

The CrossFire stutter will be twice as fast. Maybe if they put enough brute force into the next gen, it will be so fast the stutter won't be noticeable! Quote

Personally I'd feel dual 8990s will be able to speed up global warming just from the heat produced and the power drawn D:.Quote

As much as I've read and understand about cards and have spoken to other people about this matter, The new single GPU flagship will either be on par with the 780 OR 5-10% faster, I'm thinking more along the lines of 5%.Quote

It Also says it only supports Open GL 4.2, which is currently up to 4.4. It also doesn't say Direct X 11.2!

Now, maybe the Stream processor count and the Clock speeds may be real, but I think that;s just a suspected core count amount and I think this whole thing is fake :/Quote

I'm so glad I run nvidia xD

In all seriousness though, I hope the 9000 series (or Rx 2xx? I'm still confused about the new naming scheme ) comes with a hardware implementation for the micro-stutter - If some people are to be believed though, the next gens going to be a huge deal, so it wouldn't surprise me if it is.Quote

Nvidia has the same problem. They just fixed by using hardware instead of hardware. Which is more effective. AMD should make a hardware chip for the problem and add software on top of it to reduce it further. Seems like a smart move considering they already have invested so much into the software side.

And ya i agree. Next gen GPUs from both companies are going to be something specialQuote

Well It cant be worse than this gen lol
I still get the frownies when I think that my 680 was actually meant to be a 660 and I should have gotten a 780 Quote

8000 series with venus chips? I think these rumors are old. I remember reading almost the same thing a year ago (You can read release date Q4 2012). Then amd released 8000 series OEM which are rebranded 7000 series. Now we are waiting for the hawai chips 9000 series or whatever its gonna be called.

Its rumoured that AMD will finally anounce them next week. Hope its true, because my HD5770 is in dire needs of replacement...Quote
