Intel 8-core Coffee Lake CPUs appears in Technical Documentation

Rumours of an 8-core Coffee Lake CPUs have persisted for quite some time, seeming almost inevitable after AMD’s release of 8-core Ryzen CPUs on their mainstream AM4 desktop platform.    

With Biostar accidentally their the existence of a higher-end Z390 chipset from Intel, it is almost guaranteed that Intel plans to release higher-end CPUs that will surpass their existing Coffee Lake lineup, perhaps using the company’s new i9 branding. 

Now Intel Coffee Lake 8+2 processors have appeared on their technical documents (thanks Reddit users dayman56 for the info), with the 8 seemingly representing cores while the 2 represents dual GPU cores. Intel’s i7 8700K Hex-core is referred to as an Intel Coffee Lake 6+2 processor, making this Coffee Lake 8+2 CPU an octa-core sibling of the i7 8700K.  

These documents require a login to Intel’s website to access, so we do not know what these documents contain at this time. The earliest reference dates back to December 2017, with all references offering the tag “Laptop”, suggesting that there will be a mobile variant.
